Lip-Augmentation

Lip Augmentation

Lip Augmentation is a lip reconstruction cosmetic surgery procedure that will give you plumper and fuller lips. Lip fullness is increased by injecting dermal fillers, such as hyaluronic acid, collagen, fat, and implants. Hyaluronic acid fillers are currently the most popular. After injecting the gel in the filler, it supports and shapes the tissues of the lips.

There are several advantages to using hyaluronic acid fillers. Some of these advantages are Control over lip volume; the gradual pace of treatment; lumps and bumps can be dissolved easily; there is less bruising; results last longer, and allergic reactions are unlikely.

Dermal fillers can last from four to twelve months and achieve soft, natural-looking results. Depending on the product, dermal fillers such as hyaluronic acid can boost lip volume, enhance lip shape, and smooth vertical lip lines. One such popular hyaluronic acid filler is Juvederm. Fat injections can also be used for lip augmentation, with the latter often being called plump lips surgery or big lips surgery. Fat injections are also called fat grafting and use fat from another part of your body as a lip filler. Fat grafting involves liposuction surgery in a different area of the body. The procedure can be done without incisions on the face or lips. Fat injections should only be done by a qualified cosmetic surgeon. They achieve a beautiful, augmented lip contour that looks and feels very natural and lasts for years.

Lip implants are also an option for lip augmentation. They can achieve a semi-permanent lip enhancement if you desire a more lasting solution with minimal maintenance. Implants are made from soft, pliable, silicone rubber or a biodegradable substance, and work best for patients who desire a noticeable increase in lip volume.

Lip Augmentation helps to restore volume to thin or aging lips; helps smooth vertical lip lines; improves symmetry between your upper and lower lips, and refines the shape of thin or flat lips.

Before your Lip Augmentation Surgery

You need to prepare for your surgery, both physically and mentally. You should have a very clear idea about the type of lips you want post-surgery. You also need to choose your cosmetic surgeon very carefully. Your cosmetic surgeon will typically ask you a lot of questions about your expectations regarding the lip augmentation surgery.

Dr. Suma has several years of experience in performing successful lip augmentation surgeries. She works individually with each patient and counsels them regarding the results they can expect post-surgery when it comes to lip augmentation. Most cosmetic surgeons caution against lips that are too full and recommend a shape that is natural-looking.

Your doctor may also recommend that you avoid aspirin, fish oil, multivitamins, and Vitamin E for about a week prior to your surgery. This is because each can act as a blood thinner and can result in post-injection bruising.

During your Lip Augmentation Surgery

Injectable lip augmentation procedures can be performed quickly in your doctor’s clinic with little or no downtime. The only exception is fat injections. This is because the procedure involves liposuction to remove fat from another part of your body to inject in your lips.

Before the injections, a topical or local numbing agent is applied to prevent acute discomfort.

Sometimes nerve block injections are given to completely numb the lips. These are similar to the anaesthetic injections you get at the dentist to numb your mouth. Holding ice to the lips before the injections also helps numb the area and prevents bruising and swelling.

Once your lips are numb, your cosmetic surgeon will carefully mark the areas to be injected. Subsequent to this, very fine needles are used to inject the substance into your lips. After the injection, ice may be applied to reduce swelling and ease discomfort. However, no firm pressure should be put on the treatment area. Lipsticks or other lip products should be avoided immediately after the procedure.

Precautions and Procedures Before and After Lip Augmentation Surgery

You are not the right candidate for lip augmentation surgery if you have oral herpes, diabetes, lupus, or any blood clotting problems. You should inform your doctor about any medications you are taking.

These include over-the-counter drugs, prescription drugs, and herbal supplements. You should also inform your doctor if you are allergic to any medications, including lidocaine. Side effects of hyaluronic acid fillers are temporary and typically mild. They may include bleeding from the injection site, swelling and bruising, and redness and tenderness at the site of the injection. If these side effects persist or are severe, you should consult your cosmetic surgeon immediately.

There are several specialists who can perform lip augmentation, such as plastic surgeons, dermatologists, and cosmetic facial surgeons. The most important thing is to find a doctor you can trust and who is experienced in lip augmentation injections.

Dr. S. Suma is one such cosmetic surgeon. She will explain the procedure of lip size reduction surgery and what you can expect in great detail during the initial and subsequent consultations. So, do not just go to anyone for lip augmentation. Do your homework and consult an experienced and skillful surgeon, such as Dr. Suma.

Lip Augmentation Surgery Result

The great thing about hyaluronic acid fillers is that if you are not satisfied with the result of your lip augmentation procedure, your cosmetic surgeon can inject an eraser enzyme, called hyaluronidase. This will dissolve the filler in a few minutes.

The result of your lip augmentation procedure will be apparent almost immediately. However, there may be swelling and bruising of your lips for a few days, which will disappear given time. Your lip augmentation procedure result will last for a long time, typically for more than a year, or even more.

Also, post-injection, your life can resume as before, with the caveat that you should not consume aspirin for the duration recommended by your doctor. You should also stay away from hot liquids and drinking from a straw for some time, post-procedure.

If you are contemplating lip augmentation surgery, do consult with Dr. Suma Sandhyala, who will guide you through the process so you incur the least possible discomfort before, during, and after your lip augmentation procedure.
