Monsplasty

Monsplasty is a surgical procedure that is also known as a “Pubic Lift”. It is used to reduce and lift the Mons Pubis in women. This procedure is performed for both cosmetic and functional reasons and helps return the mons pubis to its original position.

The mons pubis often becomes excessively large due to weight gain or pregnancy. After significant weight loss, childbirth, or normal aging, the mons pubis can sag and can lose its connective tissue attachments. When this is severe, you may have difficulty wearing clothes, passing urine, or engaging in sexual intercourse.

The Monsplasty procedure reduces the sagging and excess skin and tightens the mons tissue (the pubic area), to create an improved aesthetic appearance and restore normal function. The procedure involves excision of fat and pubic skin, horizontally, at the upper edge of the pubic region.

Through this incision, excess fat is removed through liposuction and the mons pubic is sculpted. The outcome is a smaller, more natural-looking mons pubis.

Before your Monsplasty

When diet and exercise do not improve the size and sagging of your mons pubis, surgery may be necessary. Your initial consultation with your cosmetic surgeon is of vital importance. During this consultation, your surgeon will take a detailed medical history, including the different medications you may be taking.

She will also determine your reasons for undergoing this surgery and your expectations regarding your Monsplasty. She will, most likely, ask you to stop taking blood-thinning medications for at least two weeks prior to surgery. These include aspirin-based medications, certain anti-inflammatory drugs, blood-thinners, and herbal supplements. She will also ask you to stop smoking for 4 weeks before and after surgery.
You will also need to abstain from alcohol for at least a couple of days prior to surgery and. Your doctor may also determine your expectations regarding your Monsplasty.

You are an ideal candidate for a Monsplasty if your mons pubis area is enlarged or sagging; if you experience discomfort during sexual activity; if you are embarrassed to wear swimwear and other tight clothes; if you are physically and emotionally healthy, and if you have a positive outlook and realistic expectations regarding your surgery.

Dr. S Suma will encourage a detailed consultation and will also encourage you to ask all your questions and clarify all your doubts. Being a woman she is extremely empathetic and understands the importance of and the impact that this surgery will have on your self-image, self-esteem, and self-confidence.

During your Monsplasty

Your surgeon will administer either local anesthesia with sedation or then general anesthesia. She will determine the type of anesthesia that is best for you. After this, an incision will be made between the pubic area and the navel. Liposuction may be used in some cases to eliminate excess fat tissue.

The underlying muscle and tissue are carefully raised, tightened, and sculpted, to contour the pubic area. Your surgeon’s goal is to create a smaller, more natural-looking mons pubis. An experienced surgeon will customize the mons pubis lift as per the patient’s unique anatomical and personal aesthetic and cosmetic needs. In many cases, the monsplasty is combined with other female cosmetic genital procedures, such as Vaginal Tightening. After the procedure, sutures or adhesive tape is used to close the wound.

Precautions and Procedures before and after your Monsplasty

You should follow your surgeon’s instructions before, during, and after your Monsplasty. Most patients who have undergone a Monsplasty should plan to take at least a week off from work in order to heal properly. Rigorous physical activity should be restricted for at least 6 weeks. If you’ve had skin removed from your mons pubis, a surgical drain may be placed at the site for a few days to remove excess fluid from the area.

Immediately after treatment, there could be swelling and some discomfort. This swelling may last for about one to three weeks and then gradually subside. Your surgeon will most likely recommend that you take a light walk each day. Minimal swelling may be present for several months, postoperatively.

Monsplasty Result

The change in your mons pubis post-surgery will be noticed immediately. The changes are permanent, but can be affected by weight gain, pregnancy, or childbirth. Final results will be determined after few weeks.
