Ear Lobule Repair

Ear Lobule Repair is a simple, outpatient procedure to repair stretched or torn earlobes. These have resulted from tearing, trauma, or piercing. This is a minimally invasive procedure that greatly improves ear proportions and overall facial aesthetics.

This surgery is done when the skin on the earlobe begins to droop and sag. It can correct partial, full, or multiple tears in the ears. Partial tears are commonly caused when a pierced ear is elongated and stretched with heavy earrings. Full tears are caused when the bottom lobe of the ear is completely separated. Multiple tears are caused by either external trauma, or when multiple earring holes are torn completely through the bottom lobe.

Before your Ear Lobule Repair Surgery

Ear Lobule Repair or Ear Lobe Correction may be right for you if you have a stretched or torn earlobe due to trauma, gauged ears, or an accident. Torn earlobes are typically a result of heavy earrings that continually pull down the earlobe. If the tear continues, your earlobe may even split. Ear Lobule Repair or Ear Lobule Reconstruction removes the damaged skin from a trauma or accident and restores the appearance of your earlobe.

Before surgery, the area will be cleansed and marked for the planned excision. You should stop taking aspirin, aspirin-containing medications, and other blood-thinning medications for about two weeks prior to surgery.

During your Ear Lobule Repair Surgery

During surgery, your ear lobule is numbed. If the tear is partial and does not break through the bottom of the ear, the elliptical tear will be excised and sutured. If the tear is in the lower third of the ear lobe, your doctor may extend the tear completely through the ear, excise the skin, and suture the ear.

Precautions and Procedures Before and After Ear Correction Surgery

Immediately after ear lobule repair surgery, there will be redness and swelling of the ear lobe. For about 1 to 7 days after the surgery, do not submerge the sutures in water. Also, you should not indulge in any strenuous activities for about 2 days. Stitches will be removed after about 5 to 14 days.

Ear Lobule Repair Result

The result of your Reconstructive Earlobe Surgery will be permanent. However, you should avoid the use of excessively heavy earrings, in order that your ear lobe does not tear again.

After surgery, you can again get your ears pierced after 1 to 2 months. However, you should not get the same spot on your ears pierced again, but should pierce your ears at a different place to where the surgery was done. This is to prevent future earlobe tearing or complications due to previous scar tissue.
