Butt-Lift

Butt Lift

A butt lift is also called a buttock enhancement or a gluteal augmentation. It is a cosmetic surgical procedure that improves the appearance of your buttocks. There are many different types of butt lifts. Buttock enhancement procedures can include removal of excess skin, tightening, liposuction, transfer of fat from other parts of the body, and butt implants.

You may be seeking a butt lift if you are looking to enhance the size of your buttocks; if you want an improvement in the shape of your buttocks; if you feel your body is not proportionate; if you find your butt is “drooping” due to aging; if you want to create a better and balanced body shape, and if you believe that more roundness and fullness will improve your figure.

The different types of butt lifts are Butt implants or augmentation using gel silicone or water-filled devices; newer, solid silicone implants, and a Brazilian butt lift. The latter is an alternative to butt implants.

You are a good candidate for a butt lift if you are in good overall health, are at a stable weight, are over the age of 18, have some fat in different body locations for liposuction, and have reasonable expectations for your recovery and result.

Your surgeon will probably not recommend a butt lift for you if you have a chronic condition, such as heart disease or diabetes. You should also not opt for a butt lift if you plan on losing a significant amount of weight, have a body mass index greater than 32, and have an unstable mental condition.

Dr. S. Suma is a skilled plastic, cosmetic, and reconstructive surgeon who is skilled at performing the different kinds of butt lifts. She will work closely with you right from start to finish and will help you as you create a new body image post-surgery.

Before your Butt Lift

Your initial consultation with your surgeon is of the utmost importance. During your consultation, your surgeon will take your detailed medical history. This will include details about past illnesses, any chronic health conditions, any medications you may be taking, as well as any surgeries you may have had. If your desire for a butt lift is related to weight loss, your surgeon will also ask you detailed questions about your weight gain and loss, as well as about your diet.

After taking your detailed medical history, your surgeon will conduct a detailed physical exam. To determine your treatment options, your doctor will advise certain blood tests, will examine your buttocks, skin, and lower body. She might also take pictures of your buttocks for your medical record.

You should discuss your expectations from the surgery with your doctor. This would include the reasons you want a butt lift and what you’re hoping for in terms of appearance after the procedure.

You should clearly understand the benefits and risks of the surgery.

Your surgeon will also most probably recommend that you stop smoking a few weeks prior to surgery. This is because smoking decreases blood flow to the skin and delays healing. Smoking also significantly increases the risk of complications.

Your doctor will also advise you to stop taking certain medications, such as aspirin-based medications, anti-inflammatory drugs, blood-thinners, and herbal supplements, as these can increase bleeding. You should plan for someone to stay with you during surgery and to drive you home and stay with you for 24 hours after surgery.

You should also follow all of your surgeon’s instructions prior to surgery, including when to stop eating prior to the administration of anesthesia.

During your Butt Lift

Your butt lift will be done either in a hospital or in an outpatient surgical facility. Most typically, your surgeon will administer general anesthesia prior to the surgery. A catheter will be inserted into your bladder to collect urine. Your legs will be placed in devices called sequential compression boots, in order to prevent blood clotting during and after surgery.

Your surgeon will make an incision along the lower back from hip to hip. The excess skin below the incision will be pulled up, thereby lifting the buttocks. The extra skin and fat are then removed. During the procedure, you will be given an antibiotic to reduce the risk of infection. This procedure takes about two to five hours to perform.

Another type of Butt lift is the insertion of implants in your buttocks. A gel silicone, solid silicone, or water-filled device is placed into each side of your buttocks. This creates a full, rounded appearance.

As a rupture of both gel silicone and water implants is a very real risk, solid silicone implants are preferred.

A Brazilian butt lift is a very real alternative to butt implants. This is a relatively new procedure that has gained popularity in recent years. It involves removing fat from the hips, abdomen, lower back, and thighs and then injecting this into the buttocks. With a Brazilian butt lift, you can improve the proportions of the entire lower body. This helps a patient lose fat in several “problem areas” and also enhances the buttocks. The results of this surgery last for many years.

Precautions and Procedures before and after your Butt Lift

Your surgeon will explain the precautions and procedures to be followed before and after your Butt Lift. After your butt lift, the incisions will be covered with surgical dressings. One or more drains will be placed under the wound and close to the incision line in order to drain any excess blood or fluid.

Your doctor will advise you to walk as early as the first day after the butt lift surgery, in order to prevent the formation of blood clots. Initially, you may feel moderate pain, which will be relieved through intravenous pain medication. Drains may be left in place for several weeks post-surgery and your doctor will help you with instructions as to how to empty and to take care of your drains.

You may need to take an antibiotic and possibly, an anticoagulant to prevent infection and blood clots. After a few days, you will be advised to wear a compression garment for the next few weeks. This garment will prevent fluid build-up and will provide support while you heal. You can manage your scars using silicone sheeting, scar cream, and massage.

For the first few months after a butt lift, you need to take care while moving. You should increase your activity level slowly and avoid positions that strain your incision line. Your doctor will provide you with detailed instructions as to how to care for yourself post-surgery. She will also advise you as to when you can resume exercise and work. Also, several follow-up visits to your doctor will be needed.
